I began expressing my passion for photography at 15 when my older brother asked me to build him a darkroom, (I was always building things as a child). After the darkroom was completed he immediately locked me out! So while he was at work during the day, I would remove the hinges on the door and fulfill my passion.
The passion led to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Art Center College of Design, and then to owning and operating an advertising photography studio for nearly 25 years, shooting food, cars, product, jewelry, people and many other things, for clients that included Hyatt Hotels, Disney, Suzuki Motorcars, Callaway Vineyards, Home Depot and others that I have probably forgotten.
In the early 90's my studio became an early adopter of digital photography, shooting with Leaf Digital Camera Backs. At that time the Leaf Backs were $28,000 and the Mac Quadra running at 33 MHz, (yes MEGA not GIGA), ran $9,600.00 but the best part is that 64 Megs, (yes MEGS), of RAM cost $6,000.00. We have come a long way.
25 years is a long time, and I decided I needed a new challenge, so in 2004 I went to law school, graduated in May of 2007, took the California State Bar exam in July of 2007, and was sworn in as an attorney in December of 2007.
All of the images in my gallery are personal work. Some of them were shot as portfolio pieces, but none of them were ideas of art directors or clients. I wanted to make this a gallery of my personal concepts.
Thanks for looking,
Jay
